Experimenting:: with a group trip for Dutch people of my age. Summer means travel to all my friends in the Netherlands. Even though I don’t have a partner, I wanted to do something fun for myself in this season. So… I’m leaving today on a week trip to Cyprus! It’s so nice that the flight, hotel and a few activities are all organized for us. There will be lots of people to meet and hang out with, if desired. And, bonus, I can practice my social Dutch.
Listening:: to a new podcast, Gwyneth Paltrow’s GOOP on Spotify. I’m tuning in to episodes about women’s hormone balance, modern dating, mental health and yoga. The quality of the guests is high and the library of episodes is extensive.
Celebrating:: Sherrie Gee’s award-winning rendition of Pas de Deux quilt!
When Sherrie’s longarm quilter told her that her quilt had that Wow factor, she decided to enter it in a local quilt show, the Southwest Quilt & Fiber Art Festival, which took place in St. George, Utah and included 13 regional guilds.
“It was the first time that I had submitted a quilt for judging (or otherwise) in any show and I thought that it would be a good exercise in going through the process. And can you imagine my surprise when I was awarded second place in the Modern Traditionalism category?!?”

Anticipating:: My mother’s first visit to The Netherlands!!! My mom will be staying a week with me in August. I am so, so, so excited to show her a little bit of this country which has become my home.
Stitched in Color includes a library of free tutorials, more than 10 years in the making. Each month I’ll feature one to spread the good news.
Since I just recently hand quilted Michael’s blanket, I thought it would be a good time to highlight this tutorial. Hand quilting is slow, but quite relaxing and beginner-friendly!
One thing that is so comforting and hopeful about life is that endings are also beginnings. I enter August with the feeling of a fresh start. It’s exciting to be making space in my life for the possibility of someone new. Meanwhile, I have so much already to be thankful for, like the opportunity to travel and the ongoing blessing of dear friends and family. As always my work brings me joy and invites expression. What’s coming next, I wonder? Maybe a spiderweb quilt sew-along this fall.
