The benefits of swimming in the wild seem to be well attested.
There’s plenty of wonderful writing on it out there.
So this is a personal view. And it feels right that this be another in the (no doubt ongoing) series Navigating melancholy.
What seems to matter is that I go beyond my immediate comfort.
That I step out, and step in.
That I am immersed.
Immersed in the gift of life in this moment.
Deeper than anything my mind seems to be creating for me.
That I swim out of my depth. And there find myself held.
That I swim towards the sun.
Abandoning, thankful, joyful.
To discover that this is a prayer.
