Dr.Mani · Sticky Truths for Tricky Times

Learning how to focus involves turning down non-essentials.

In other words, you must learn to say ‘No’.

But unless you get good at it, you’ll often end up saying ‘Yes’ - in bad ways!

Here are three of them...

  • Sacrifice: You don’t want to, you don’t like to, but you say ‘Yes’ anyway. As a sacrifice - of what’s important to you.

  • Resistance: You’re not thrilled about it, and feel trapped at having to say ‘Yes’ - and help out half-heartedly, even sabotage the project.

  • Resentment: You’re angry they asked, you hate the thought of being pulled away from higher priorities, but still you accept.

Instead of doing this, it would be more respectful to simply turn down requests for your time or assistance.

Just say ‘No’.
