Brand New Day

Hey Everyone,

Well, it’s a week since San Diego Comic Con ended and I’m still tired and catching up. Though to be fair it was a busy week as my sister was in town and my kids were not in camp, so…

I did manage to catch Brand New Day with my son and the crew from one of my favorite comic book stores, The Comic Bug, on Thursday night. It’s no surprise that the film did gangbusters this weekend as it was really good! IMO, the best of the Marvel Studios Spider-man films. The Punisher was great and didn’t cry as much as usual (maybe I’ll rant about this another time) and the SPOILER reveal of Sadie Sink’s character has me excited for the post-Doomsday/Secret Wars MCU. I really wish we can skip to 2028 already (not really). I’m not much of a fan of multiverse sagas as they always seem to be an excuse to raise false high stakes. Hey look, EVERYBODY is dead… except it’s ok cause it was another universe’s everybody. No! It’s not okay! Still, I’ll be seeing them in theatre, but mostly cause my son wants to (and I’m not patient enough to wait for them to pop up on Disney+… and I really want to see them too! ;-).

I am very pleased with myself that I didn’t buy anything at SDCC, except the for a couple of $6 TPBS and a pack of Upper Deck Absolute DC cards that my wife picked up for me. I’m a member of Scott Snyder’s Best Jacket Substack at the founder level and he throws a breakfast at SDCC for us, so I got to get a couple of cards signed by him and Nick Dragotta who I got to set next to. He was as nice as you’d expect and took the time to look at some Matador art, as well as art from a pitch I’ve been working on. Maybe one day we’ll see Absolute Monster Matador!!!! One can dream, I guess…
