I recently sat down for a wide-ranging conversation with Michael Mezz, a storyteller and climate advocate from Los Angeles who hosts a provocative podcast called Better Future. Michael and I discussed Chevron’s environmental crimes in Ecuador and the company’s rogue behavior around the world, how to deal with the worsening political environment in the United States, and the outrageous $660 million verdict against Greenpeace stemming from what I believe was a rigged trial in North Dakota orchestrated by the pipeline company Energy Transfer and its billionaire owner Kelcy Warren.

One of my bottom line conclusions: the Democratic Party has been so hollowed out by corporate power that we no longer have a viable opposition party on a national scale in the United States. And that’s a huge problem.

Conversations like these allow me to try to connect the dots between the climate crisis, unchecked corporate power, and the rise of authoritarianism here and abroad. And talented young journalists like Michael play a critical role in holding power accountable and in making a better world possible.

Please check it out.
