Notes from Upstream: Tale As Old As Time

A lot of people—sane people, mostly—have analogized the cartoonishly self-destructive “Queers For Palestine” to “Chickens for KFC.”

To explain this anomalous phenomenon, fancy phrases like “suicidal empathy” abound. Given sufficient cover by our legacy media and cowardly politicians, mass rapists and baby burners like Hamas can manipulate an otherwise commendable human impulse to care for the weak into support for their “resistance” and its self-proclaimed atrocities.

Ideology also plays a part. For anyone who buys into the Marxist notion of “intersectionality,” it makes sense that the same people who would throw you off a building in an instant must constitute “resistance” to whichever Emmanuel Goldstein you’re ordered to hate for the next ten minutes, whether it’s Donald Trump or Bibi Netanyahu or Sophie Cunningham.

To one who accepts the stupidity that the U.S. is the an “imperialist” power and Islam is not, the infatuation with Islam makes sense. Whatever you do, don’t question the means by which a tiny seventh century religious cult from one corner of Arabia managed to extend and maintain its rule over a billion people, especially when those means include totalitarianism, rapes, the massacres of hundreds of millions, and the obliteration of indigenous cultures.

If one’s self-infatuation depends on not asking, one does not ask.

The above are some explanations for the left’s crush on Islam. In this post, I’m throwing another explanation into the pot: weakness.

The American left is weak. It has always been weak. It is weak now. It has to be, since it consists mostly of weak college professors, weak liberal arts graduates, weak feminists and the like.

If they all went on strike, who would care?

Socialism was weak even back in 1920, when socialism reached its previous electoral high-water mark and Eugene Debs won almost a million votes for President.

Republican Harding: 16,166,126 votes (60.4%)

Democrat Cox 9,140,256 votes (34.1%).

Socialist Debs: 914,191 votes (3.4%)

Debs was by far the most popular socialist in U.S. history. But it wasn’t his socialism which popularized him. He was the civil liberties candidate. Under cover of a law long since correctly ruled unconstitutional, the Democrats imprisoned him for speaking against World War I.

Socialists were not as stupid as they looked. They did recognize their weakness. They needed a powerful friend.

Ever notice how the school yard bully always has a puny punk hanging around him leaching off his power? As in A Christmas Story and “Grover Dill, the crummy little toady” of the oversized yellow-eyed bully Scott Farkus?

Is it an overstatement to observe the similarity between American socialists and Grover Dill? Let’s look at the history.

In the 1920’s, after the successful Russian revolution, many American socialists discovered they must have been communists all along and joined the Communist Party USA. The Russian communists had taken over the Russian Empire, renamed it the USSR, and eventually turned it into the biggest bully on the planet.

After 1956, when Khrushchev exposed a few of Stalin’s many crimes—which Khrushchev had helped commit—some communists went looking for a less tarnished foreign power to chase after. They chose Chairman Mao’s Communist China.

After China failed them, at least for the time being, some chose Castro’s Cuba. That didn’t work out either, so some went for Sandinista Nicaragua.

Note the ever more desperate progression from the powerful USSR down to a lowly Central American dictatorship (which I will not tag a “banana republic,” if only because Nicaragua has lost 40% of its banana production under Sandinista rule.)

America’s left is always the bridesmaid to some more beautiful and successful foreign bride. Its leaders are always on the hunt for some power outside the U.S. which will support them and designate them as its representatives within the U.S.

They are perennial Grover Dills.

They have just this moment settled on jihadis. This despite the fact that their support for jihadis blatantly contradicts Karl Marx.

Marx and Engels claimed their socialism was “scientific” socialism. Marx welcomed actual scientist Charles Darwin’s Origin of Species as “the book which contains the natural-historical foundation for our view.”

Marx admired Darwin:

“It is remarkable how Darwin recognizes among beasts and plants his English society with its division of labour, competition, opening up of new markets, “inventions”, and the Malthusian“ struggle for existence”

Marx also compared his own efforts to the efforts of Copernicus and other astronomers. He admired his own ability to trace the underlying imperceptible movement of capital,

“just as the apparent motions of the heavenly bodies are not intelligible to any but him who is acquainted with their real motions, motions which are not directly perceptible by the senses.”

As resolute atheists, Marx and Engels regarded all religions like the religion of Mohammed as opiates which stupefied the masses, obscured true class relationships and prevented the development of class consciousness.

The foundational Marxist hostility to religion does not stop current Marxists from chasing after jihadis who root their violence in religion. That’s what the Tudeh did. The Tudeh held the franchise from Moscow as the official Communist Party of Iran. For decades the Tudeh and the other varieties of Iranian communists operated without success. Then they discovered the popularity of the Muslim leader Ayatollah Khomeini. Seeing the opportunity to hook up with a new bully, they fought for Khomeini and his jihadis even through the jihadis’ 1979 seizure of power.

Having made good use of their communist toadies, Khomeini’s IRGC outlawed the communists and began killing them. Ten years after their revolution, in 1988, the IRGC finally got around to executing the last recalcitrant communists.

With that history in mind, we should ask, how deep is the “socialism” of a Muslim such as Mamdani?

When a reporter asks Mamdani to define the socialist phrase “working class,” Mamdani grins his rictus grin and equivocates: “I haven’t sat at home and asked myself where it starts and stops.”

The commentator in the video who calls Mamdani a “clown” for his ignorance misses the point. The commentator’s natural mistake recalls the tired old riddle:

Question: What is the difference between ignorance and apathy?

Answer: I don’t know and I don’t care.

Mamdani does not know socialist terminology because he does not care.

As Mamdani’s practical measures are beginning to demonstrate, he does care about seizing wealth and power and spreading them to his cronies, not just to those he dubs “working class,” but especially to his fellow Muslims, and especially to his fellow Twelver Shia Muslims.

All Twelver Shia anticipate the reappearance of the Twelfth Imam who disappeared more than a thousand years ago, in 941, and will return as Mahdi, that is, the leader who will rule at end times and bring Allah and Allah’s representatives on earth into total power.

Just like Marx said.

The Democrat candidate for U.S. Senate in Michigan Abdul El-Sayed stands out as another politician like Mamdani.

Not a digression: the Muslim Brotherhood is an international terrorist organization whose purpose is to establish a Muslim caliphate which will rule over all humanity. It is also the chief contemporary importer of Nazi ideology into the Muslim world—as if Islam needed more Jew hatred.

Hamas is an official branch of the Muslim Brotherhood. Hamas is also an antisemitic anti-western proxy for Iran, a country with which we are at war and whose official policies are Death to Israel and Death to America.

The Muslim Brotherhood is illegal in many Arab and other Muslim countries, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Jordan, Syria, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Libya, and Comoros.

To me, El-Sayed looks a lot like an American candidate of the Muslim Brotherhood. It is possible that I am misled by his father-in-law’s leadership in organizations such as the unindicted co-conspirators ISNA (“Islamic Society of North America”) and CAIR, as well as El-Sayed’s own personal support for the Morsi-era Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.

The evidence presented in federal court also must have misled at least one federal judge to consider CAIR and ISNA as Hamas supporters:

“In the 2007 Holy Land Foundation terrorist financing case, the United States Department of Justice named ISNA, along with Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the North American Islamic Trust (NAIT), as an unindicted co-conspirator and one of a number of “entities who are and/or were members of the US Muslim Brotherhood.” ISNA, along with NAIT and CAIR, filed motions seeking to be removed from the UCC listing, and the District Judge found that the government had violated the organizations’ rights by publicly listing them as Unindicted Co-Conspirators. However, the judge did not remove ISNA from the list, ruling that prosecutors provided “ample evidence to establish the association” of ISNA to Hamas.”

Most Democrat politicians disregarded El-Sayed connections to Hamas and supported El-Sayed in the Michigan Senate Primary against Haley Stevens, another Democrat. These Democrat politicians included:

· Bernie Sanders (I-VT) — early and highly visible backer; campaigned with him in Michigan.

· Chris Van Hollen (D-MD)

· Elizabeth Warren (D-MA)

· Tina Smith (D-MN)

· Ed Markey (D-MA)

U.S. House Members (including the full progressive “Squad”):

· Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) — high-profile endorsement and joint rallies with Sanders.

· Rashida Tlaib (D-MI)

· Ilhan Omar (D-MN)

· Ayanna Pressley (D-MA)

· Pramila Jayapal (D-WA)

· Ro Khanna (D-CA)

· Summer Lee (D-PA)

· Delia Ramirez (D-IL)

· Maxwell Frost (D-FL)

· Greg Casar (D-TX)

· Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ)

· Lateefah Simon (D-CA)

· Others including Adelita Grijalva and additional progressive House members.

These additional Democrats now support him after he won the primary:

· Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-Hamas)

· Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand

· Gov. Gretchen Whitmer

· His primary opponent Haley Stevens

The near-unanimous Democrat support for El-Sayed stamps the Democrat Party as the party of Hamas, terrorism and Jew hatred.

The political marriage between jihadis and leftists is one of convenience for the jihadis and weakness for the leftists.

Leftists are all Queer for Palestine now.

If their marriage were consummated by their taking power together, it would end not In civil divorce but in uncivil mass murder, not only of the rest of us but of leftists too.

In the 1930s, as part of the Communist Party’s de facto alliance with the Nazis against liberals and social democrats, the Communist slogan was “After Hitler, Us!”

In 1979, the Iranian leftists planned something like ”After Mohammed, Us!”

The “Us” result didn’t happen either time. It won’t the next time either.

The Democrat Party is fine with that, or at least fine with taking that risk.

The rest of us cannot afford to be.
