The termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) is becoming official, stripping legal status from approximately 350,000 Haitians who had been living and working lawfully in the United States leaving them a vulnerable and targeted population.
The need for TPS remains more critical than ever, with pathways to safety effectively shut off at every turn. A bill to protect Haitians, S4814, has been introduced in the Senate. Please call the U.S. Senate switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and urging your senators to co-sponsor and pass S.4814.
The Interfaith Center of New York (ICNY) is encouraging people to reach out to elected officials to demand the shutdown of Delaney Hall and a full investigation into the death of Edwin Lopez-Cornejo, who just died from health complications in ICE custody.
Note: Cynthia, Jazz and I will be taking a needed break next week, visiting granddaughter upstate. It will be important for all of us to be ready for September and the great campaigns to oust Magas in November.
Thanks for your solidarity and support during these days. With our hard work the sun will shine in November. And we are getting there together.
More soon,
Steve
