I am joined by the NY-based journalist and novelist Ross Barkan to discuss Colossus. The novel follows a charismatic pastor and aspiring local real estate mogul, Theodore “Teddy” Starr, in a small-town Michigan. Starr’s manicured public persona is an attempt to erase his past and hide his less than pious personal motives. Will Teddy remain the star of his second act? Does he has a third act in him?
Ross and I discuss the significance of the novel’s title, the novel’s Midwestern and small town setting, and his interest in American identity and reinvention, including its political ramifications.
