“I need to write…” I told myself multiple times throughout the week, especially as Sunday neared. “I need to just get that off my plate so I can try and rest somehow after this insane week of work.”

Thursday came and went. Friday came and went. Then Saturday disappeared before I could grasp it.

I had no mental capacity to dig into the original Greek for our word study this week, but also felt like a complete failure for not being able to stay consistent—ESPECIALLY since you are now dedicating your hard-earned money to support this work.

So I told myself I’d wake up early on Sunday, head to a coffee shop, and write before meeting up with my Women’s Ministry Director at the church. Then, as I raised my weary head this morning, I realized what I needed so much more than to write this article—I needed to just sit with the Lord and the good book and soak up whatever wisdom He had to show me.

Because I don’t want to pour from an empty cup. I don’t want to write by my flesh alone. So I opened up the book of John since that’s what we’re reading in together this summer, and it brought me to the familiar stories of feeding the 5,000 and Jesus walking on water.

Although… this time, as it so happens with the living word of God often, something was different. This is why translations, original language, and differing gospel perspectives matter!

Join me on this journey with the Word. I hope you’ll find something healing for your soul, too.

  • Yup… that’s how life feels right now. Scattered is the word I keep using—white knuckling, and holding on for dear life so I don’t fall and bring my whole team down with me.

  • I’m feeling their weariness, exhaustion from rowing and fighting the current and waves. Frankly, I’m tired of trying to do it all on my own in my own strength. Nowhere to turn, no more solutions at hand. I’m at a loss and a few times this week, I was ready to throw in the towel.
