The Very Near Dead Town

I’m born and bred in this town that was once a thriving town and busy and a town you could be proud of , with all the night life and once had many cinemas and pubs , but today it’s dying a slow death and not many outsiders come here now and I can’t say I blame them.To tell the truth it’s been dying slowly a slow death now for many years probably since Woolworths closed down , about twenty five or thirty years also ago , the council kept saying it’s because the army is now a lot smaller than it used to be, yes its Aldershot Town Centre in Hampshire the army town . It’s also blamed on online shopping, yes I can see that is a part of the problem but I’ve been to many other local towns and they’ve been still a lot busier than Aldershot and still have the big high street shops that we no longer have.

I believe the problems are down to the councils bad planning over the years and bad decisions that they have made over the years and possibly greedy shop landlords that keep putting the rents up to extortionate prices year on end , the councils removing all the free parking and only thinking of them selves and not the town or its people and its shops, and allowing the owners of the second faze of the Wellington's Centre to evict the shop owners to leave which had taken many years to do so courseing them unnecessary headaches and possibly hardships.

Then sealed it up and left it closed for another ten years also and then demolished it a building that was only thirty years old, yes built in the 1990s WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY that was, I’m disgusted with that , now it’s just a open space because there’s no money I believe to build the shops and flats because labour now I understand runs the council so no money.

That’s not all, the escalators in the Wellington centre broke down sometime before Christmas the best time of the year for the shops and although Christmas to today three weeks in January 2026 they are still not working and we wonder why aldershot town dying, DOES NO ONE REALLY CARE ABOUT ALDERSHOT AT All.
