Have you ever felt like someone’s staring at you…even when you’re just reheating last night’s pizza?
That’s not your imagination.
That’s your dog.
Forget about English, French, or even Pig Latin.
Your dog speaks “vibe.”
Every sigh, every eye roll, every death-glare at your overflowing inbox - he gets it.
He knows the difference between “I’m fine” and I am one spilled coffee away from a full meltdown.
And here’s the kicker:
He’s syncing his body and mind to you. It’s not the other way around.
If you’re the pack leader, he’s your emotional mirror.
You can buy every calming chew on the shelf (and yes, I make the best ones).
But if you’re running on fumes, your dog is, too.
If he’s barking at every squirrel, pacing, or glued to your leg like a toddler at a birthday party, well, it’s time to take a breath.
Ask:
What’s my vibe right now?
Because odds are, your stress is contagious.
Every time I speak with dog people they tell me how stressed they are. They own it. And just by me being there with them, calmly, they slow down. And so does the dog. Here’s what we do:
Breathe (for real).
Deep, slow, dramatic. Your dog will match you.Slow down your movements.
Rushing equals danger. Calm means safe.Speak softer.
Yelling “relax!” is comedy for dogs.Shoulders back, eyes soft.
Posture isn’t just for Instagram. Dogs follow calm energy.Laugh.
Laughter resets both your nervous systems. Bonus: it’s fun.
Perfection is boring. Presence is magic.
The more you practice calm, the more your dog trusts the world, and himself.
So know this: The next time you catch your dog staring deep into your soul…
He’s not being weird.
He’s making sure his favorite human is okay. (That’s YOU!)
He might even be reminding you to close the laptop, toss the ball, and live a little.
Pause for a minute.
Take three deep breaths.
Make eye contact with your dog.
Smile.
See what happens.
(If your dog flops down, sighs, or brings you a toy, you’re on the right track.)
