I was 16 when I read a book titled Happiness Forever.
It made me fall in love with life.
Until then I had been a bitterly frustrated teenager seeing only hypocrisy, disease, neglect, superficiality, stupidity, laziness.
It was the days before Facebook and Google.
Now we have Instagram and AI.
Yet still us humans are mired in the same chronic cultural stressors of times past.
When will we learn, as a culture, that life is about levity?
Levity is not fanciful.
Simply put, it is to feel good. Some might liken that to wellness, too.
If you recall a time when you felt physically healthy and mentally healthy, you probably associate that with feeling good.
But levity goes beyond the physical and mental.
When our lifestyle is in order, when we are relatively pain free, when we are supported and connected with meaningful relationships…
What happens, and what remains to explore, is emotion.
The flow of the day. The whispered promise of tomorrow.
Everything feels possible. Everything feels right.
We feel… light.
A lightness of being that is not the automatic default mode of human existence, unfortunately.
A state of being that must be earned.
Hedonsists seek it through party. Religionists seek it through prayer. New-agers seek it through psychedelic states. They all aim for the same.
Yet doesn’t it often seem that the world is designed to curtail our levity?
To tie us up in knots of to-do lists, responsibilities, news stories of daily evils in the world that should not even be imaginable?
The ultimate flex in life is not to be financially rich, nor to grow old gracefully, but to feel good in your mind, body, and spirit.
To achieve levity. To live levity. To be levity.
And to help pass it on, one communication at a time.
When the world catches on, our collective focus will quickly shift from a pursuit of profits and self-destructive irrational indulgences, to an effortless dedication to nurture wellness in every sense: from morning to night, in all that we do.
Fellow human,
Gavriel
