Disney saved some of its biggest Marvel and Lucasfilm news for D23 this weekend, making sure they would be making plenty of headlines in the weeks after mostly focusing on Avengers: Doomsday at the recent San Diego Comic-Con.
But in case you’ve been busy or just want to hit the highlights, no worries, I have you covered. On the genre side, we got new trailers for most of the bigger projects on the horizon — plus the cast for the upcoming X-Men reboot was announced, most notably with the addition of Obsession breakout Inde Navarette as Rogue(!!).
But, as for trailers, here are the biggies (listed by premiere/release order), so here’s what you missed.
Created by Terry Matalas, the mind behind the fantastic SYFY time travel series 12 Monkeys that you probably never watched, this picks up the story of Vision after the events of WandaVision and Agatha All Along — and it looks absolutely bonkers. Much of the action seems to take place in Vision’s mind, and it’s wild, and puts the show’s title into so much more context.
You’d have to think this will be loaded with clever easter eggs, and a fascinating journey to see what becomes of Vision in the next phase of his existence.
Going to be honest, this show is a bit of a blind spot for me, but I do realize it’s wildly popular and probably a really fun fantasy adventure. So, if you’re a fan, the trailer looks really cool and the new season premieres around Thanksgiving.
Arguably the biggest drop from D23 was a new “Special Look” at Avengers: Doomsday, which seemed to confirm there’s a definite connection between Doom and the Fantastic Four (which isn’t a surprise, but with Robert Downey, Jr. in the role, was curious how they would play that).
We see Doom absolutely rocking Thor in battle, and plenty of heroes from across the multiverse assembling to face off against this new threat.
This deeper cut series into the Star Wars canon looks to keep the trains rolling on the Galaxy Far, Far Away with a fresh adventure picking up on Ahsoka’s journey — including plenty of familiar faces from the animated corner of Star Wars jumping to live action.
This show is a treasure trove for hardcore fans, and Season 2 reveals the return of Hayden Christensen as Force Ghost (and possibly flashback) Anakin. The studio also revealed an in-person teased for Ryan Gosling’s Star Wars: Starfighter film, but sadly it wasn’t released publicly.
