In 2024, most people died from circulatory diseases, or 711 individuals, which corresponds to almost a third of all deaths (27.3%). The second largest group, or 653, died from tumours (25%). Moreover, a total of 302 died from diseases of the nervous system (11.6%) and 235 from diseases of the respiratory system (9%).
Immigrants in Iceland were 73,795 on 1 January 2025 or 18.9% of the total population. The proportion of immigrants is larger than last year when it was 18.2% (69,690). The number of second generation immigrants rose from 7,352 in 2024 to 7,839 in 2025.
