Total catch in July was nearly 42 thousand tonnes

Total catch landed in July 2026 was nearly 42 thousand tonnes, 51% less than in July 2025. The demersal catch was 25 thousand tonnes, representing a 2% decrease compared with July 2025. The pelagic catch was nearly 15 thousand tonnes, a 74% decrease compared to July 2025.

Total catch landed in May 2026 was nearly 62 thousand tonnes, 9% less than in May 2025. The demersal catch was nearly 40 thousand tonnes, representing a 6% decrease compared with May 2025. The pelagic catch, which, like last year, was mostly blue whiting, was nearly 19 thousand tonnes, a 16% decrease compared to May 2025.

Export value of aquaculture was 53 billion ISK in 2025

The total Icelandic production of ungutted fish in aquaculture in 2025 was 64,417 tonnes, a 17% increase from 2024. By far the most was produced of Atlantic salmon, or 58,717 tonnes, which is a 19% increase from 2024.. Arctic char amounted to 5,141 tonnes, a 8% increase, while other species accounted for less than 1,000 tonnes.

Total catch landed in April 2026 was over 123 thousand tonnes, 12% less than in April 2025. The demersal catch was 37 thousand tonnes, representing a 12% decrease compared with April 2025. Profitability in fishing and fish processing 2024

Statistics Iceland has compiled and analysed the operating accounts of fishing and fish processing companies for 2024 as well as their balance sheets. Information from these statements along with data on exports and catches were used to measure the overall profitability in the subsectors of these branches of the industry.

Total catch in February was over 137 thousand tonnes

The total fish catch in February 2026 was more than 137 thousand tonnes. Thereof capelin amounted nearly 86 thousand tonnes. Demersal catch increased by 6% year-on-year, while flatfish catch increased by 50%.

The total fish catch in January 2026 was nearly 75 thousand tonnes, a decrease of 5% compared with January the year before. Demersal catch decreased by 11% year-on-year, pelagic catch increased by 1%, while flatfish catch decreased by 27%.

The total fish catch in December 2025 was just over 53 thousand tonnes, a decrease of 13% compared with December the year before. Demersal catch decreased 13% year-on-year, pelagic catch by 12% while flatfish catch decreased by 30%.
