Hi there!
I have had a break from client work the past couple of weeks, and it’s been reminding me of summer vacation when I was in school. I think I loved summertime much more back then because of the break that came along with it. I spent a lot of time watching movies, crafting, and envisioning what life would be like when I was all grown up.
I’ve mentioned it before way back, but I also spent a lot of time watching HGTV and building my dream home out of construction paper. There was nothing better than getting a fresh pack of construction paper and the smell that it had. Ugh, I miss it (and might have to make a purchase). If anyone has tips for cracking into that childhood creativity without the exhaustion of adulting, please leave a comment!
Hopefully I am not alone in this feeling (though I wouldn’t wish it on anyone), but I haven’t had any motivation to do anything creative other than getting my apartment set up… especially when it comes to design. As a huge proponent of passion projects, I surely have not had any motivation to do any myself. Maybe it’s time for a challenge to wake it back up? Sometimes when I am in a funk, it’s best to just let it run its course, similar to a cold. But other times I have to push myself into the deep end full force. This time feels like a run its course moment.
Some of the ways I’ve been spending my time are watching Love Island UK and US, such a fun way to turn your brain off and enjoy summer. I’ve also been getting back into reading and joined a book club! We are currently reading Theo of Golden, and it’s been such a refreshing and sweet read. I’m only halfway through, but I think I am gonna have to do a full write-up about that one. It is truly so wonderfully written and warms my heart. I feel fully immersed every time I pick it up. Along with my usual trips to Trumpet & Drum and getting realllly into Mahjong, I’ve been making the most of my summer.
I’ve also been really soaking up my new environment. I live pretty close to St. Charles, and the houses on that street are just gorgeous. I love spending time driving or walking down the street and admiring the houses, thinking of the people who live in them and what it would be like to reside in such a gorgeous, historic place. I’ve already told Tony multiple times that I dream of the day when we can own one of the houses on that street. If only I had an endless supply of money at my disposal, that would be the first thing on my list!
During this little break, I have also been spending a lot of time pondering what I want to be doing and what I want to get out of life. I’ve been considering a career shift to something that involves more off-screen time. As much as I love design, I have some other passions that I am inching toward exploring. Ever since the first time I stepped into an art gallery and watched Charlotte work at a gallery in SATC, I’ve dreamed of what it would be like to work in a gallery. Whether that be as a curator or in any other role, I think it’s something I’d like to explore. The same goes for interior design. I really enjoy putting together a space, finding treasures to fill it with, and finding ways to put together things that don’t necessarily go together. I definitely would have a lot to learn (and would be interested in exploring that further), but it is something bouncing around in my head.
I love the idea of opportunities, but I also get overwhelmed by all of the what ifs. I am sure this is a relatable experience for most of us as creatives, but I just don’t love feeling so tied to my computer… the irony of me saying that while sitting in front of said computer typing this very post is glaring, lol.
Maybe it’s the curse of being in my late twenties, but I just feel like there is so much to do and explore in life, and I want to make sure I have the most fulfilling career and life that I can! We are only here once, after all.
Also before I sign off, here is my newest apartment accomplishment… my plate wall! I can’t wait to add to it and swap some pieces in and out as the seasons pass.
I have been a bit all over the place in this post, but one way of processing my thoughts is through writing, so I really do appreciate all of you taking the time to read and engage with my work.
Hopefully your week has been off to a great start, and if you are feeling overwhelmed in your own path forward, I hope this makes you feel like you’re not alone! My DMs are always open for a chat if you want advice or just want to share your thoughts!
THANKS FOR BEING HERE!
Until next time,
Bailey x
