Last week was momentous. In case you missed it, we covered Lettuce and the SF Symphony at Stern Grove Festival, Aki Kumar at Yerba Buena Gardens Festival, Wallice at The Chapel, SF Uke Jam’s Uke Explosion, Taylor Swift at Levi’s Stadium, Bob Moses at Stern Grove Festival, and Breakdown, a new musical.
Here are some shows in the week and weeks ahead that we’re looking forward to:
Thursday, August 3
Truth Cult, State Faults, False Flag, and Caveman
Remember when those bands performed a packed, sweaty punk show on BART earlier this year? One of them was False Flag. In true punk fashion, they’re playing on a four-band bill at Cornerstone in Berkeley at 8:00 PM. – Daniel
Taj Mahal
Taj Mahal was my favorite act at BottleRock. His small, intimate set brought me to tears. If you’ve never caught this legendary bluesman, get to SFJAZZ and hear him live. Also playing August 4, 5 and 6. – William
Friday, August 4
Maxwell with the San Francisco Symphony
Triple Grammy winner R&B icon Maxwell croons with the symphony. Also playing Saturday, August 5. – Jon
Chicano Batman
The LA-based indie group brings their unique sound back to the Bay! Gonna be a great show at a great venue – The Catalyst in Santa Cruz. Sold out. – Marc
Saturday, August 5
Chokecherry with Loco Tranquilo, Buzzed Lightbeer, and Uncle Chris
For anyone who thinks local music is anything approaching dead, tell them to catch these four bands at The Chapel. And bring some ear plugs, cause it might get loud. – Daniel
Beck, Phoenix, Jenny Lewis and Sir Chloe
We’d be there for just Beck alone but add in French rockers Phoenix, we wouldn’t miss this show for any amount of money; and Jenny Lewis and Sir Chloe are the best sort of icing on the cake. At Concord Pavillion. – Marc
The Asteroid #4
The Asteroid #4 is a band you have to see live. (I concur! – Daniel) The last time I caught them they put on a seizure-inducing light show (in a good way.) At Papermill Creek Saloon. – William
Gumby’s Junk
Gumby’s Junk, Gumby’s Junk, Gumby’s Junk. All everyone ever talks about is Gumby’s Junk. Catch them with Pregnant and the Flamingos (the other Flamingos) at Thee Parkside. – William
Monday, August 7
Regina Spektor
Hard to believe it’s been almost 20 years (!) since Regina first played San Francisco. If you repeated that bill today, Kings of Leon might be opening for Regina and The Strokes, instead of the other way around. She brings her smart, vibrant, and funny piano music to The Mountain Winery. – Daniel

Big Thief
I’m a big Big Thief fan and, hey, they’re playing the Greek Theatre in Berkeley on Tuesday. Lucinda Williams is opening! - William
