Staff Picks: Rebels & Renegades, THE HU, and Brian Jonestown Massacre

Rocktober marches on with far, far too many great shows happening in and around the Bay Area, but here are a few of our picks…

Friday, October 6 to Sunday, October 8

The Monterey Pop Festival at the Monterey County Fairgrounds was where Jimi Hendrix lit his guitar on fire and California counterculture became mainstream. The Rebels & Renegades Music Festival looks to tap into some of that mojo, but with a lineup leaning more alt-country, featuring Wilco, Shakey Graves, Charley Crockett, Paul Cauthen, Sierra Ferrell, and Kurt Vile. Hopefully this event fairs better than First City Festival did back in 2013 and 2014. – Daniel

Monday, October 9

THE HU combines heavy metal with traditional Mongolian throat singing to make for one of the most interesting shows you'll see this year. Catch them at The Warfield Theater! – Marc

Tuesday, October 10

Porno for Pyros was canceled, so us 90s grunge rockers will have to console ourselves with The Brian Jonestown Massacre at The Warfield. Our loss is Anton’s gain. – Daniel

Grammy-winner rapper genius Macklemore takes over The Masonic in San Francisco for an intimate show supporting his recent release Ben. – Jon
