The coffee scene in Copenhagen needs no introduction. Home to iconic Scandinavian roasters like the Coffee Collective and La Cabra, the Danish city has established itself as one of the best in the world for the filter drinkers. But Copenhagen hasn’t been resting on its laurels. There’s a new crop of roasters looking to make a name for themselves. And this week on Sprudge, contributor Benjamin Sand takes us on a tour of some of the new roasters in Copenhagen.
So many coffee events so little time. The Sprudge Coffee Events Calendar is a compendium of coffee events the world over. And the best part is, it’s completely free to submit your own coffee event. We’ve got quite a few on the docket already over the next few months, and so we are looking at just a sampling of the many exciting coffee events between now and the end of September.
With September fast approaching, that means that the Build-Outs of Coffee are nearing their end. But we’ve still got quite a few new Build-Outs left. Like Milk Brew in Pasadena. The namesake drink is made by steeping coffee in milk, and the cafe is recently opened. And even though the Builds are coming to a close, there’s still time to submit your cafe to be featured. The last day is August 17th, so act now.
There’s a fast-paced new coffee competition in town, and it looks to see who’s the best at getting a shop up and running in the morning. Created by Mazzer, The Opener puts working coffee professionals through the ringer to see who can get a shop ready to roll, regardless of what sort of shape the closer left it in the night before.
For our latest installment of Coffee Design, we’re looking at the new OPBeans by Portland Coffee Roasters. The coffee was created as a way to support Oregon Public Broadcasting after it lost federal funding, and the design is a love letter to the entire state of Oregon.
Last week, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake hit western Colombia. The biggest in a decade, the earthquake caused significant damage to infrastructure, closing both the main road and port through which the majority of all the country’s coffee exports pass through.
Pack Katisomsakul is the founder of Newbery Street Coffee Roasters in Boston, focusing on importing and roasting coffees from Thailand. As a member of latest Sprudge Twenty cohort, we spoke with Katisomsakul about his time in specialty coffee, what has inspired him, and what he hopes to see in the future.
Lots of news coming from the press desk this week. And finally, Go Get Em Tiger recently announced a new CEO, David Yardley.
The 2027 US Coffee Championships season is shortly underway, and it is kicking off with the US Roasters Championship. And as previously announced, this season heralds the return of the regional round of competition.
