A Final Toast to the Shadows

Dear Spindle House patrons,

I am writing today to formally announce the closure of Spindle House.

Spindle House has been on hiatus since the beginning of the year. During that time I’ve had some much-needed time to evaluate recent developments in my personal life and in the world at large, and what those changes mean for the future of Spindle House. I’ve consistently reached the same conclusion, that Spindle House is not a project I am able to continue with in the foreseeable future. The time has come for it to rest.

I deeply enjoyed seeing Spindle House at its prime when we produced both issues of The Deeps. I still think the stories from those issues are absolute gold, and I’m endlessly grateful for the opportunity to work with the talented authors and artists who contributed to those issues. This is my final pitch for Spindle House: if you still haven’t read those stories, I beg you, please go read them. They have meant the world to me. You can read them for free on the Spindle House website, where they will remain.

To my friends, family, mentors, and other anonymous supporters: thank you so much for the role you’ve played in bringing Spindle House into this world and keeping it alive up to now. Your support has meant so much to me.

A special thank you to Dori Lumpkin, my co-conspirator during Spindle House’s final year. You helped me keep Spindle House open a year longer than I expected. Thank you for everything.

Finally, to the rest of you: thank you for coming along for the ride and giving Spindle House a chance. It’s been a shorter ride than expected, but a good one. I have no regrets.

So it goes, one final voyage into the night.
