Buoyed by the success of their STV Radio Football Show podcast, broadcaster STV will launch a 30-minute adaptation of the show on Friday nights at 7pm.

The new preview show will be hosted by Ronnie Charters, Ewen Cameron and Callum Bell and include guests and fans. It aims to bring a fun look on the wonderful world of Scottish football, with debate and analysis.

New episodes of the podcast will continue to be released every Monday.

STV, which had produced the longest running sports show in the World in Scotsport until it’s cancellation in 2008, will be encouraged by the success of other Podcasts transitions to television.

BBC Scotland’s A View from The Terrace (produced by Studio Something) has became somewhat of a cult hit in recent seasons.

Away from Scottish football, Netflix’s adaptation of The Rest is Football during the World Cup and BBC Scotland’s Scotcast will give STV chiefs some belief.

This is not STV’s first attempt at weekly preview, Peter and Roughie’s Football Show - adapted from PLZ Soccer was aired on STV2 and laterally STV before cancellation in 2018. The matter was subject to a failed legal action by PLZ.

However, this latest attempt comes with much stronger viewing figures, and a canny understanding of social media. The bombastic Cameron, being featured as the figure of much amusement by Celtic’s official accounts, following their title win May - and more recently by Rangers following the signings of manager Derek McInnes and captain Lawrence Shankland in June.

STV have previously came under fire for a lack of Scottish programming, a new football show with relatively low production costs in a slot previously occupied by entertainment magazine shows could act as a turning point for the broadcaster, which recently ended its Aberdeen-based news programme.

Richard Williams, MD of Audience at STV, said:

“The STV Radio Football Show has found a dedicated and highly engaged audience since launching as a podcast less than a year ago.

“Ewen, Ronnie and Callum are brilliant, homegrown broadcasting talents, and it’s a no-brainer to bring their camaraderie and lively, accessible discussions about football and entertainment – and all sorts of other stuff – to our TV audience too.”

The STV Radio Football Show on STV airs weekly Friday at 7pm from 31 July.
