Spark e-fuels’s Substack · Spark e-fuels’s Substack

  • Pilot Plant Project: The development of our syngas pilot plant is moving forward successfully. Slightly ahead of plan, we already executed HAZOP, are finalizing engineering, and have started with the procurement process.

  • Team Growth: Spark’s team is getting bigger and stronger! In the last month, two great new employees joined Spark to accelerate our technology development and ensure the pilot plant project runs smoothly.

  • Recognition: Spark was busy pitching its disruptive vision and tech at several events, strengthening our market awareness and partner network at the SPRIN-D Venture Summit, Smart Freight Week, Hannover Messe, and others. Additionally, Spark got featured on the first page of a top media outlet in Berlin.

  • Demo plant locations/partners: We just started with focused project development for our e-fuel demo plant (100+ tons p.a. scale), and are still looking for additional leads. If you have similar plans or know suitable partners/locations, please let us know. We highly appreciate your support!

  • Pilot Plant Project - We are running ahead of schedule with our syngas pilot plant, as we completed the first engineering milestones weeks in advance. We are already procuring main equipment parts and preparing for the plant’s construction.

  • Syngas lab project: In our lab project, we successfully performed tests for the scale-up of our catalyst material as preparation for the pilot plant. Together with an engineering partner, we identified a promising setup for our pilot plant and beyond.

  • New patent preparation - During the engineering of our syngas pilot plant, we came up with an interesting way to optimize the operation of our plant. Based on these findings, we are currently preparing a new patent submission.

  • Bodø SAF meeting - This small and collaborative event hosted discussions of the entire SAF value chain: electricity providers, conversion tech providers, project developers, off-takers, financers, regulators, NGOs. We presented Spark’s approach on load flexibility and reached out to potential partners, including promising discussions with project developers.

  • Hydrogen industry event in Berlin - Hosted by MEP Hildegard Bentele, member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, the event allowed Spark to talk about the SAF industry and the requirements for industry change and SAF production uptake.

  • Project SkyPower - Spark recently joined Project SkyPower, the top European network of decision makers aimed at accelerating e-SAF adoption.

  • Front page newspaper article - We were very excited to see our work at Spark being covered on the front page of Berliner Zeitung. The journalist nicely covers our company’s vision and the relevance of demand-responsive e-fuel production on a full page.

  • New employees onboarded - Spark’s tech team is getting bigger and stronger. Ayse, our pilot plant engineer, and Zohreh, our tech innovation engineer, recently joined our team. The two will significantly contribute to accelerating Spark’s technology value creation. Ayse is coordinating our syngas pilot unit construction, and Zohreh drives our IP generation and contributes to our lab campaigns.

Ayse Avuka, Plant Engineer (Joined 24th of March)

Zohreh Asadi, Tech Innovation Engineer (Joined 1st of April)

  • Biz Dev - To generate new business leads, Spark pitched on stage at various events throughout the last three months, including the SPRIND Venture Summit in Berlin and the Innovation Worldcup at Hannover Messe. Even better, Spark won first place during the pitch contests at Smart Freight Week in Amsterdam and D2XCEL Startup City Day in Nürnberg.

  • Guest lecture at WHU - Last month, Mathias held a guest lecture at the renowned business school WHU, where he had the chance to inspire young talents and spread Spark’s mission across new nodes of the German innovation ecosystem!

  • Team Event - As our team grows, more time is needed to build stronger team relationships. We held our first Spark team event last month, which was a blast!
