Brave (Original)
You say that I am brave and yet I am not
Bravery is to go above and beyond what is expected of you for selfless reasons
The only choice I ever made was to survive
To not suffer and live an unfulfilling life
I made it here
He did not
You only see the strongest ones because those are the ones who can
You see the ones who fought tooth and nail through living hell upon living hell
You do not see those who fought and lost
Those who never got the chance
And those who were not able to ever rise to the challenge
We are all dropped into hell without a map and try to find our way out
Not all make it
We try our best and fight our hardest to make it easier
And we’re still losing

Brave (Updated)
You say that I am brave and yet I am not
Bravery is to go above and beyond what is expected of you for selfless reasons
The only choice I ever made was to survive
To not suffer and live an unfulfilling life
I paint a target on my back
And
You
Call
Me
Brave
I made it here
He did not
Many others did not either
We fall by our own hand
Their hand
Many hands
We are being killed in the streets
Tried in congress
And executed in the courtroom
We are nothing but
Toilet paper for your conscience
And porn for your inspiration boner
To be used and forgotten
We are to you
What the unborn are to
The republicans
Except you bog us down
In civility politics
And tone policing
We
Are
Done
You are
Either helping us
Or obstructing us
We are not “descending to their level”
We need no moral high ground
Other than the knowledge that we
Act purely in self defense
If you
Want to
Call us
Brave
You must be one of us
Put yourself on the line
Yourself in their crosshairs
Else it is nothing but an insult
You throw popcorn at us
While we are murdered in the street
If you cared so much
You would don the
Black Bloc
And take up arms
You don’t even need to go that far
Just learn
And drop your privilege
And understand who we are
How we fight
Why we fight
And why we hate people
Like
You
You only see the strongest ones because those are the ones who can
You see the ones who fought tooth and nail through living hell upon living hell
You do not see those who fought and lost
Those who never got the chance
And those who were not able to ever rise to the challenge
We are all dropped into hell without a map and try to find our way out
Not all make it
We try our best and fight our hardest to make it easier
And we’re still losing
Rest In Power Zoe Preece
And Brianna Ghey
And Nex Benedict
And all the names that I have yet to list here
Remember the fallen
Because you sure won’t
Or even worse
You will
And you’ll sanitize
Deradicalize
Distort
And make palatable for the masses
A fate worse than death
A fate worse than being forgotten
Being turned into a puppet
A figurehead
To advocate against the very things
You once stood for
I have a few poems dropping tomorrow that I really should have posted during Transgender Awareness Week because they’ll all be on the theme of my experience with transness. At least I’m remembering to do it at all. I feel like these two poems are relevant to the day. I updated the poem after the murder of Brianna Ghey, back in February of 2023. I originally wrote the first version of the poem sometime in fall of 2022, after I started writing poetry in October of 2022. It’s actually the 6th poem I ever wrote. Zoe Preece is the name of a UK trans woman who killed herself back in March of 2019. I heard of her through Reddit, which I was using at the time. Her friend posted about it on some trans-related subreddit I was on. It was just after I realized I wasn’t cis and it was my first moment where I realized the long odds I’m up against. Some conversations I had around that were what inspired the line about everyone being dropped into hell without a map and not all of us make it out.
