The Solars supported by Decentralized Pictures

The Solars are among the winners of the Decentralized Pictures/Base Award.

It’s a joy to return to filmmaking after a long period of visual and thematic research. The writing of a feature-length screenplay has begun, and the award given by Decentralized Pictures is an important milestone for the project’s development.

Founded by Leo Matchett and Roman Coppola, Decentralized Pictures is a new kind of organization that integrates community and blockchain to decentralize the film production process and make unprecedented international collaborations possible. It is connected to American Zoetrope, the legendary production company founded by Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas.

I couldn’t be prouder that The Solars project is supported by this organization.

Of course, our approach is also new because The Solars explore the still-wild territories of AI-assisted creation, trying to forge its own unique path. This involves working with services less known than the tech giants, to decentralize here as well. With the conviction that we are living through a pivotal period.

For me, AI simply allows to represent what was previously inaccessible. Creating with AI is full of difficulties and pitfalls, far more than one might imagine at first. The authors’ vision is essential, because it’s the idea and intention that prevail.

Some parts are also entirely “handmade,” such as the writing and music by the talented Mathias Durand. Acting must also be preserved in my view, so we’re planning to integrate more and more professional and non-professional actors into the creative process.

The Solars thus stands at the frontier, in this hybrid creative space where new forms can emerge. I see this as an extension of the Mixed Media philosophy. A search for encounter, fusion, and blending, which has enriched creation since its beginnings, particularly for cinema.
