Vacaville police have identified a man who was fatally shot in the parking lot of a gas station last weekend, and confirmed that a woman alleged to have shot him has claimed it was an act of self-defense.

Jason Demar Robinson, 42, of San Francisco was killed by gunfire at the Arco gas station on Orange Drive last Sunday, according to a refreshed public statement by the Vacaville Police Department.

Police said Robinson ran inside the gas station’s convenience store after being shot, where officers attempted life-saving measures. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe Robinson and the woman were involved in a relationship, and that an encounter earlier in the evening had turned into a violent confrontation. The woman claims she fired a gun in self-defense, and the firearm was later recovered by police.

The woman stayed at the scene of the shooting and was initially detained by police, but was not arrested. Detectives continue to work the case, and intend to forward the matter to the Solano County District Attorney’s Office, who will determine whether criminal charges will be filed.
