Anyone who knows me knows I’m obsessed with a hot workout. But even though I’m extremely careful with my skin, it can still cause breakouts. Over the years, I’ve developed a few tricks for keeping my skin clear even with daily heated workouts. Here’s exactly how I keep it happy and clear even when I’m sweating away:

Set yourself up for success with an absorbent headband before class even begins. I always wear one to class to stop anything I have in my hair from sweating and dripping onto my face. Oils, hair products, etc. — they’re all staying where they belong.

Come prepared. My gym bag is stocked with Micellar Pads to remove makeup and sunscreen before class, a mini cleanser to cleanse post-class (and keep my pores clear), and a Fridge to Face to cool my skin down and keep bacteria from adhering.

Clean your mat! I think people seriously underrate the importance of doing this before and after class. Your mat is basically a petri dish. I spray mine down with hypochlorous acid before and after class to keep it clean, then I immediately shower at the studio after.

I know it feels like a hassle, but don’t wait until you get home to shower. Sitting in sweat on the subway or in your car is one of the fastest ways to trigger breakouts on your chest, back, and face. I also always bring shower slides because PLANTAR WARTS ARE REAL!!!

If you can’t shower at your studio, change clothes immediately. Get out of your sweaty clothes the second class is over. Damp, warm fabric against your skin = bacne, chest breakouts, and irritation.

Once you get home, do a proper double cleanse. Your skin will thank you — and you’ll be ready for your next class.

Any questions? You know where to find me.
