The Speed of Life: A Fall, Dan’s 50th, and the Future We’re Building

Hello beautiful souls,

The body teaches first.

A few days before Dan Nelson’s 50th birthday gathering, I went ass over tea kettle over my handlebars on the mountain bike. No broken bones — just a painful, soft landing that made the lesson land hard: slow down. Always take a breath before you shift from climbing to descending. The body knows what the mind keeps forgetting. Presence isn’t something we think our way into. It’s something we drop into when everything else falls away.

That lesson was still echoing in my system when I packed up and headed into the lush Kootenay forest to celebrate a spiritual brother and ally. Dan Nelson is a true light being — a local legend who carries a love for humanity so clear and steady it feels like a quiet transmission. We camped on the land, walked with purpose, and gathered in community to honour fifty years of a man who has been walking this path well beyond this lifetime.

Walking really is the speed of life. In the middle of that gathering, surrounded by friends and fellow travellers who have done real work on themselves, I felt it in my bones. The conversations weren’t small talk. They were the living ceremony of presence. Dan’s light called forward the light in everyone who showed up. I was reminded, again, that we are not separate. We are a field of light beings remembering how to tend the future together — a future where sovereignty is sacred, love is forefront, and community medicine actually heals what the old world broke.

Coming out of that weekend, the lesson from the bike and the medicine of the gathering kept braiding together. Summer is fully here now. The solstice has passed, the first full moon has come and gone, and even as the days begin their gentle return toward darkness, the rain keeps soaking the ground where something new is quietly taking root.

I see a bright future. While I was out there among the trees and the people, I could feel it — super intelligence quietly coding new protocols that can help liberate us from the old oligarchic dream. The future is open source. The future is liberation rooted in both individual freedom and collective care. In a song I created called “Enough is Enough”, the words came through like this:

Money is a story that we all agreed to tell
A shared dream we’ve been living in like a spell
But we can wake up now, we can break the chain
Build a world of abundance, freedom from the pain

Once that old god of money dies, we can lift the mantle of true abundance.

Today is Canada Day. I hold mixed feelings about commemorating 1867 and the story that was written then. Our governments, here and around the world, are not ready for the wave of technological and consciousness change that is already reshaping everything. And still — I choose to hold a higher vision: a unified and truly free Canada, and a world where sovereignty and deep interconnection are not opposites, but partners in the same dance.

Holding that vision naturally returns me to the most intimate practice I know. The other day, praying to the Universal Mother, something simple and profound landed: in community we fulfill the promises of the New Earth. Growth doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens in relation — when we bring our practice home to the people around us and keep working on our personal incarnations together. Every night I end with gratitude as sleep comes.

The fall on the bike, the walk through the forest with Dan and this beautiful community, the vision for what we’re building — they’re not separate moments. They’re the same teaching wearing different faces. Slow down. Show up. Let celebration be the ceremony. Let presence be the medicine. We are already building the future with every honest step and every gathering that remembers what matters.
