Beats in Bits: Boombap

Beats in Bits: Boombap is my latest album, released in March 29th 2024. It was built using an Akai MPK Mini Plus and GarageBand. For a while I've been wanting to produce beats than can be specifically used with Hip Hop. Since there are many different styles and I wanted to make it easy for these instrumentals to be found by others, I landed on the "Beats in Bits: X" name. I decided to start with…

Orbital

Orbital was released in 2023. It was built using an Orba 2 and GarageBand. After getting an Orba 2 I was prolifically making nice loops, and because it integrates nicely with GarageBand, which has a vast number of instruments and loops, and I had experience with it in all the other albums (except Deep), it was a natural choice for production and very easy to get into a flow state and make a few…

Deep

Deep was released in 2022. It was built using LMMS, a software I hadn't used before. After a somewhat steep learning curve, I was able to start creating loops and samples I enjoyed, all using virtual instruments. I practiced a few notes on my guitar, but while creating music, I noticed I was gravitating towards low, deep bass and drum sounds. I decided to embrace that, and the concept for "Deep"…

Collage

Released in 2021, Collage was a very interesting piece of work in the sense that I didn't have a "concept" or "story" that I usually like to have in an album. I had a handful of musics around that I'd been creating ever since releasing "Day", and they were very different and almost orthogonal. In the end, I really liked 3 of them that felt nice together, and so I created "Collage".

Day

Released in 2020, Day was a "proper" work I wanted to do entirely in a computer, practicing on my guitar, but ultimately using virtual instruments. I mostly arranged some loops, effects, and recorded a few instruments like piano, bass, and guitar. You can read more about it on my announcement. The concept for the album (EP, really) was to have one track for each "part" of the day, and have the…

eDreams

Released in 2017, after having a couple of previously recorded musics from 2016, I decided I wanted to see what it was like to have something available for streaming, and recorded a couple of new musics with most samples and loops from GarageBand, if I'm not mistaken. I ended up choosing EmuBands due to the one-payment nature and getting to keep 100% of royalties, and it was a great process. When…
