10 Cool Girl Brands to know, love and shop

There’s nothing quite like the thrill of unearthing new brands. It feels so satisfying and so hopeful and it brings a fresh dose of inspiration.

On my current travels (hi from Paris!) I’ve come across some new (to me) brands and I’ve visited stores that stock brands I’ve only had the pleasure of admiring online. To get to touch and try on these items has been such a treat. Quality often speaks for itself when you’re in a space with a product; you can spot the luxurious material from across the room, and truly appreciate how it exists in real life. It lures you in and a connection grasps you.

I’m picky about what I purchase which means I’m of course picky with what I recommend. Here are cool brands doing cool things that I’ve fallen in love with either from discovering IRL or enjoying their online world.

Emily Dawn Long

A tshirt is always in but perhaps now more than ever we’re living in a bit of a renaissance of the graphic tee. At the forefront of this revival are Emily Dawn Long’s very popular, very cool vintage-like graphic tshirts (spotted on the likes of Zendaya, Justin Bieber etc) all in her signature font.

Based in New York Emily’s work is the coolest of cool. Beyond graphic tees, Emily makes a variety of ready-to-wear dresses, tops, skirts, shorts as well as bags, hats, belts, jewellery etc.

Modern Weaving

I discovered Modern Weaving through their leather bags, assuming that was their only offering but as it turns out, they make ready-to-wear alongside a whole range of other accessories. Sleek, minimal and chic, Modern Weaving’s pieces are crafted with the finest materials from state of the art textile mills across Italy, Korea and Japan. Over 90% of their fabrics are made of 100% natural fibres - cotton, linen, silk, wool, providing function and comfort.

The slouchy delicate look of their bags is just too good. The leather is so buttery soft and I love the bags thin spaghetti-like straps.

Michel Piza

The colours and the craft behind this beautiful Italian shoe brand are out of this world. Based in Milan, Michel Piza’s designs puts movement and wearability at the forefront while creating classic shoes with a modern spin via colour choices and materials.

I first saw the Zay slipper and honestly I can’t pick which ones I love more between the the Apple Green, Glossy Bordeaux and the Red-Orange Pony.

Hai

I visited the Hai Shoreditch store while in London after following the brand for years. They specialise in silk pieces and it was so nice to see Hai in person and try on their clothes. I bought these pink silk dupion shorts.

Teira 1996

I fell in love with this Copenhagen based brand last year while visiting the city. Teira is a slow fashion brand made from leftover fabrics in limited numbers created with the intention that each piece becomes a wardrobe favourite. They make gorgeous basics, alongside fun unique styles and I love their use of colour.

Brooke Callahan

Queen of colour blocking, Brooke Callahan’s world is one I want to live in forever. When shopping, I am always scanning the racks for colour first and then assessing if the cut, size, shape is right for me. Colour is what will hook me immediately and I’m always interested in adding unexpected shades into my wardrobe and thinking up ways to clash them with other colours and patterns. So it makes sense why Brooke’s pieces speak to me so strongly; pure colour in simple, refined, elevated designs.

For the love of great basics

My collection of basics are my biggest wardrobe heroes. I’m not a neutral dresser nor minimalist in any way shape or form but my style leans very casual. Polished, but casual. So my white tshirts get a major workout. My cashmere knits are put to use year round. My cotton pants are what I reach for almost daily.
