tLA cinema freaks and weirdo stalwarts, Hollywood Entertainment, presents a rare screening of The Sweatbox on Tuesday, August 11 at 8:00 p.m. at the new Whammy! Analog Media, followed by a Q&A with The Emperor’s New Groove director Mark Dindal, writer Dave Reynolds, and assistant production manager Tracey Miller-Zarneke - their first-ever appearance for the unreleased documentary. Originally conceived by Trudie Styler, Sting’s wife, as a documentary about Sting’s work on Disney’s Kingdom of the Sun, the film originally conceptualized, the piece evolved along with the production itself. As Kingdom of the Sun was radically reworked into The Emperor’s New Groove, The Sweatbox began capturing the upheaval in real time: abandoned ideas, shifting creative direction, test screenings, executive pressure, and the messy process of rebuilding a major animated feature that almost got shut down entirely.
Because the project began outside Disney’s usual tightly controlled making-of machinery, it became something far more candid than a conventional studio documentary.
