It’s no secret that I’m slightly obsessed with houses. I paint them onto canvas, I dream about them on my Pinterest board, hell, I even live in one! Now, you might be thinking that’s not so unusual, and you’d be right, as there are a many people who appreciate a good piece of architecture. However, what I’ve noticed is that I’m particularly drawn to buildings that are partially obscured; either the building itself is protected by a wall, or it has a front entry way that is unique or interesting. These are the buildings that end up in my Camera Roll.

There’s a certain amount of intrigue that happens when you can’t see the whole of an object. The Gestalt principle would have your brain filling in the missing details, and this seems to be very appealing. Perhaps it’s a bit like clickbait - there’s a little teaser which makes you want to know more, and you’d love to find out what’s behind the (pay)wall.
