Luckily there is a place where I can find Burmese food and people in Singapore. Peninsula Plaza near City Hall subway station is where I go. My favourite places are Ye Yint and Yellow GoldenLand on level 03 and Shwe Myanmar (now called Zayyar, and relocated to level 03, #03-20). Peninsula Plaza near City Hall subway station is where I go.

My favourite places are Ye Yint and Yellow GoldenLand on level 03 and Shwe Myanmar (now called Zayyar, and relocated to level 03, #03-20). The first two places have food that you will find in Yangon, Mandalay and Shan regions. Zayyar has spicy Rakhine (area neighbouring Bangladesh) food in addition to other dishes. They also serve Burmese variations of biryani.

Spicy food warning at Zayyar. Don’t worry. Not all their food is spicy.

Ye Yint, the long-standing Burmese cafe in Singapore. I have been taking friends here since the early 2000s. The simplest food you can get here is Burmese sweet tea with samosa. They also make fresh regional salads (thoke in Burmese) upon ordering.

Also there is no need to know the names of the food. You can point to a dish. The staff and the patrons are friendly. They will help you out.

More Burmese Food in Singapore

The Burmese Temple at 14 Tai Gin Road in Ballestier, sometimes has people offering you simple food as a part of their ceremony or celebration. Trang and I used to go here sometimes to catch free food and talk to people.

Kay-Tu Myanmar cuisine at 1 Coleman St, #B1-07 The Adelphi, Singapore 179803. Kay Tu has other branches in the industrial areas of Singapore. The Boon Lay address is 90 Boon Lay Pl, #01-140, Singapore 649884 and another one in Pioneer at 5 Soon Lee St, Singapore 627607

There are several new Burmese food places along High Street on High Street Plaza.
Yoyar Bistro (try the Tofu Nwe here, and Golden Cart and a Burmese- Japanese restaurant.

I like another place as Liang Seah Street, near Bugis MRT, Yedena, 8 Liang Seah St, #01-01, Singapore 189029

Avenue J Cafe at 1 Zubir Said Dr, #01-01, Singapore 227968 (Inside the School of the Arts)

Little Myanmar Halal food at 328 Clementi Ave 2, #01-220, Singapore 120328, another long standing Burmse place. Also nearby in Clementi, Shwe Kant Kaw Myanmar Cuisine at 325 Clementi Ave 5, Singapore 120325
Burma Social at 34 Tras St, Singapore 079026 is a higher end place at Tanjong Pagar.
Another of my favorite (and my wife’s) is my former neighbour Humble Origin Coffee, that serves some Shan inspired food and Coffee from the Shan state. 475 Joo Chiat Rd, Singapore 427682
