The shoe fixing man (Vietnam)
Saigon has many such men who walk around with a box of tools in tow looking to fix and clean sneakers.
I met one such man while crossing the street for my coffee. He glanced down, and sighed in disappointment as I was in sandals. But we chatted a bit as we walked along a common stretch. I asked him what brand of sneakers rarely needs fixing. Without any pause, he replied, “Adidas.”
Normally, people try to avoid shoe fix men. They have a reputation for finding non-existent faults with your shoe, promising a lasting fix, and charging a hefty fee for the fix.
But after my little chat, I am looking around for other shoe fix men to ask the same question. I want to figure out the next brand of shoe to buy.
