Just as I landed in Danang, I had to get some clothes washed. I chose this laundry because not only did it have a smiling girl, she was immensely curious. Packs of coffee spilled out of my bag when I opened it to reach for the clothes. The girl was already planning to paw at one pack. This kid with coffee in her blood would be a hazard, so I offered her a pack of Okinawa snacks that a Japanese bar owner down south passed to me the previous night. The girl lost interest in the coffee and started feeling the snack inside the wrapper, trying to figure out what it was. The little thank-you sticker on the pack made me a loyal customer. Small things, mostly.

What makes Danang such a exciting place is spaces like Reality where people come and learn from each other.

Dawn’s recommendation in Hoi An, the Soil Cafe, was excellent. One can see how the spaces in the periphery are becoming cool hangouts for young people in the city.

Back in Danang, I noticed that every couple of years a new language enters the adverts and city signs. These years, it is Hindi.

Also visible, in the very specific regional Indian cuisine available in Danang.

But I am happy that the Russians and the Central Asians are still sticking around.
