As promised, here’s the post about the launch week happenings…as a kickoff to Book Launch Year.
I tried to make sure every event was something I genuinely want to do. They’re opportunities to celebrate with communities that helped make this book possible.
If you’re in the DC area, or have internet, I hope you’ll join me!
Book Launch Party at K-Bird
A community-focused bar owned by a friend was generous enough to host us. There will be sloth and rabbit-themed antics, and I’ll only force people to do one intentional connection exercise. If you’re in DC and would like to join, I think I can squeeze in a couple more people. Email me at alex.snider@gmail.com.
As a former government employee who dedicated this book to public servants, I’m so excited to spend part of launch week with public service communities.
Partnership for Public Service Webinar, Beyond Urgency: Making Time for What Matters in Government and Post-Government Life 12–1pm RSVP. I’ll be in conversation with two hilarious friends, Mika Cross and Robert Shea and this fab organization standing up for federal employees past, present and future.
Mindful Fed Meditation: What a gift to return to the community that helped start this whole journey of bringing slowness into the places that least expect it. 1:30–2pm Federal employees only — email me for the invite!
Meditation at Temperance Alley Garden: This garden, run by my friends Josh and Aaron, is a sacred place, one dedicated to slowing down with nature and each other. And this weekly event, hosted by Ruben and Alanaah, was one of the first places I taught meditation in person. 6–7pm calendar invite
Ness Labs Author Session: Learning to Care Wisely. I’ll be joining the Ness Labs community, founded by Anne-Laure Le Cunff, author of Tiny Experiments, for a conversation about caring wisely. 12–1pm Zoom
EPA Mindfulness Session: I was kindly invited to talk about urgency. 2pm EPA employees only, email for invite.
Co-op gathering at my home: Ending the day by celebrating with the city garden co-op I’m lucky enough to be part of and that was featured in the book!
November Project DC “Sometimes Late” Workout: An amazing community that’s shaped my life and this book. 6:30am (I know, early!), Calvert Street Hill followed by a slow coffee at Yours Cafe
Also, it’s my brother’s birthday!! Happy birthday, bro.
Politics and Prose Book Tour Launch! 5pm + after-party! One of the bookstores I’ve dreamed about visiting as an author since I first went there in 2000!! I’ll be in conversation with my friend Rebecca Davis from Join or Die talking about slowing down with communiy; I can’t wait. RSVP
Mindful Sundays - 9am - We’ll gather for meditation and community at this group I founded 3.5 years ago, which feels like pretty much the perfect way to close launch week.
You might be thinking: “This sounds like a lot for someone who wrote a book about slowing down.”
Fair, but the point of the book isn’t to do nothing. It’s to align our pace with what matters. All these events bring me joy and energy, so I’m not calling myself a hypocrite just yet. 🐰 And I hope you’ll hold me accountable for honoring the messages of the book!
If you’re not in DC, I hope to see many of you somewhere along the book tour, more on that soon!
Take care!
