He climbed out, all six-foot-two of him, shoulders broad beneath his winter coat. Salt-and-pepper stubble covered his jaw, and those piercing blue eyes found mine immediately. Forty-seven years old, but he wore it well… better than well. The grey at his temples, the lines around his eyes, they added something. Character. Presence.
“Hey, kiddo.” He pulled me into a hug that smelled like coffee and cedar.
My stomach flipped. I buried my face against his chest and pretended the warmth spreading through me was just gratitude.
