My mind flashed to what would have happened if Eleanor had walked out earlier without calling out for me. The image of us on the diving board, Michelle’s head between my thighs, my mouth on her. I shuddered to imagine it. How could I have possibly explained? ‘Oh, hello, Eleanor, just conducting some hands-on research for my next novel?’ Chris would have been mortified. Not exactly the impression I wanted to make on my mother-in-law, who already hated me.
