Maybe this is my life coping mechanism, but overpriced chic things in my day-to-day give me joy. Whether it be a hypnotizingly sexy candle or a cashmerean detergent, it’s going to make you feel something — in the best way possible!
I say overpriced cheekily, because can you really put a price on the things that make you happy? But of course, there are purse-friendly alternatives — which i’m happy to dive into later if you want!
I did a video recently on the things I find incredibly chic, and the response told me you lot feel the same way. So I wanted to expand on it here, because a few new things have entered my rotation that I’m genuinely obsessed with.
Let me start here because I know it sounds unglamorous, but stay with me.
I’ve wanted to try The Laundress for years. It’s a well-known laundry brand from the States that I kept seeing everywhere and could never easily get my hands on in the UK — until I realised they’re stocked on FWRD, which, side note, is one of my favourite places to shop for brands that don’t have a UK presence. Quick delivery, no customs charges, no drama.
Anyway, I finally tried it and I am not going back. The scent is strong, it lasts, and it will make your laundry smell like expensive hotel sheets. You know that specific smell? That’s what this is. I got the detergent, the fabric conditioner, and the fabric spray — and the fabric spray in particular is something I reach for constantly. I just love it. Obsessed doesn’t even cover it.
Okay, so this one genuinely caught me off guard. I came across Selahatin completely randomly and the concept is essentially this: elevated fragranced oral care. They’ve recently done a collab with fashion designers, Rick Owens being one of them, and their toothpastes and mouthwashes come in different scents like a perfume. It’s just incredibly considered and cool.
And more importantly, it works. The toothpaste is a whitening formula, and I love it, though I’ll be honest: it doesn’t stretch as far as your standard toothpaste, so you’ll get through it faster. I’d pair it alongside your regular toothpaste rather than replacing it entirely. But the mouthwash? That’s the one. I actually prefer it to the toothpaste. Brushing my teeth has become an experience and I genuinely enjoy it now, which is not something I ever expected to say. Please of course, consult your dentist for further questions on whether this is adequate for your dental needs!
The Hermès Barenia Body Cream. I mean. Where do I even start.
The packaging alone earns its place on your bathroom counter — it’s heavy, beautiful, just gorgeous to look at. But what really gets me is the scent. It is strong and sensual. Like, wear-this-and-skip-your-perfume strong.
I have genuinely gone out without spraying a fragrance because this does the job entirely on its own, and it lasts for hours on the skin. But if you love fragrance on your skin as much as I do, you’ll be completely obsessed. Below are the key scent notes and characteristics:
Top Notes: Miracle Berry, Bergamot
Heart Notes: White Ginger Lily, Butterfly Lily
Base Notes: Oakwood, Patchouli, Akigalawood
In terms of moisturisation, it’s decent — if you have very dry skin you might want to layer it with something richer, but for most people it will be more than adequate. It’s a treat, not a basic. And it feels like one every single time.
If you’re a Tree Hut girlie — I love that for you, and I mean that sincerely — but it’s time to level up.
The Omorovicza Gold Sugar Scrub is one of the best body scrubs I have ever used in my life. Omorovicza is a brand rooted in Hungarian spa culture and the healing properties of thermal waters — it’s incredibly considered, steeped in history, and you can feel that in the quality of the products. The sugar granules in this scrub are chunky and substantial, so you get a genuinely thorough exfoliation, not that half-hearted gentle-polish situation. It leaves a light oily residue on the skin — which sounds off-putting but is actually gorgeous — and the scent is so beautiful that my entire bathroom smells like a spa when I use it.
It is an investment. It is worth it.
The Libra candle from Madame Grey. This one has a little backstory.
I talked about Madame Grey recently — it’s one of my absolute favourite fragrance stores, based in LA, and if you missed that video, I’ll link it here. The Libra candle from their zodiac collection actually smells like the Madame Grey signature fragrance, which is one of my favourite scents in the world and also an incredibly expensive one. So to get that scent in candle form, filling your living space? It’s a yes from me.
The throw is excellent, it’s strong without being overwhelming, and it just makes a room feel incredibly chic. Side note: Violet Grey, the sister store, is actually coming to London later this year, which I am very excited about.
I’ll keep this brief because a full haul is coming very soon. The new Chanel collection from incoming creative director Matthieu Blazy has just dropped in stores and women have been losing their minds — quite literally fighting over handbags and shoes in stores.
