Blaugust 2026: Day Five

One of the suggested prompts for Blaugust is Did you start preparing for Blaugust before the August 1st start date? If so, what did you do ahead of time to make sure you’d stay on track? I did not.

I read about Blaugust, thought it was a good idea, and started writing. That's how most of my posts get written: I have some small amount of inspiration and energy and I write a blog post. I don't usually draft them. I never schedule them in advance (because I can't; but even if I could I likely wouldn't).

I have no particular inspiration today. Not for lack of trying! These last four days, I've been more open to "what might I write about?" throughout the day. Did anything novel happen upon which I could write? Did I learn something worth recording or sharing?

I wrote a blog post on this day, twenty one years ago. I'd forgotten that I wrote that. I remembered loosely the event, but some of the details I recorded were lost to me. That had me looking at other historical posts. Maybe some day I'll write a review of my own blog posts, but for now it's just been fun to walk through memory lane.

And it's been nice to remind myself that I don't need a topic for a blog post. I don't need to write an essay, or record a profound truth. I can just leave a little breadcrumb for me to find in another twenty one years. I'll probably have forgotten about Blaugust by then, so this will be a nice surprise reminder!
