I dropped my April newsletter early, so it’s a little surprising (to me, at least, this one was unplanned ) that I’m back. But I thought I’d share this super-short video (under two minutes and no sound) that demonstrates how I make mixed media choices.
If you’re wondering what the imagery is, I made this for this month’s paid member’s sketching session coming up tomorrow where we will use our own mix of media to sketch spring blossoms.
But the imagery isn’t important, nor are the specific tools I used. Just find an assortment of stuff you have: I usually mix in a couple of things I love with some stuff I don’t use often enough. And just play!
This next session is happening today, don’t miss it!
You might already know of the monthly online drawing series called Street View World Tour. This month, the demo artist is Nina Khashchina and her chosen subject is underwater scenes.
Nina will demo the tools and techniques she uses to sketch while scuba diving. And while you can watch a recording of the demo later, you don’t want to miss the live session if you have questions for Nina.
This is a sketch Nina made while diving! And here is where you will find the details to join the live session on April 2nd!

This is a reminder of this month’s online sketching session.
The video at the top of this post is not meant to be a how-to video nor is it a supply-focussed one. Rather, I’m hoping that if the idea of mixing media freezes you up, you will create a little play session like this for yourself to figure what media you might bring to our sketch session.
Our April 2026 “Sketching Together” Zoom Session is on
