Recordings of Thursday's Sketching Session

We’re done with day 4 of the One Week 100 People Challenge! Today there were TWO sessions you could have joined and if you joined everything so far, you’d be at 72 people, sketched in less time than you expected.

In the afternoon, I sketched with Nina Khashchina who shared the hauntingly beautiful photography of Alexandra Bolotina. Here is the recording. Give it a watch!

I hope you keep going, and sketch on the bus, in the mall, in your local coffee shop, and in the markets near where you live. If you, like me, live in the land of big suburban stores, then grocery carts make great makeshift art tables and you now know you will look like you are pondering the first berries of the season (at least here in California) when you whip out that little book and do 2-minute sketches of shoppers!

There are free references everywhere! Watch a TV show or movie and sketch, open a magazine, or just do an online search of people you’d like to draw. I find my little manual timer (you’ve seen it all week, it’s in the image below) to be super useful for keeping me from overworking something: it’s ticking lets me remember to keep moving along.

These four sessions my way of taking everyone along on something I really enjoy: Sketching people and telling stories through them. It’s a tradition we return to every year: A People Sketching Marathon, where we draw 40 people in an hour to get to our goal of 100 people in the week!
