This 20-minute animated short serves as the opening course of A Banquet for Hungry Ghosts, an upcoming anthology of animated horror tales by the award-winning team behind The Violinist, where iconic Chinese dishes are cooked from betrayal, vengeance and forgotten sin.
Set in 1920s Shanxi, Egg Fried Rice transforms one of the world’s simplest and most beloved dishes into a macabre tale of love, loss, greed and supernatural retribution.
A Banquet for Hungry Ghosts: Egg Fried Rice is rated PG13.
This programme is part of SCCC Zhongyuan Festival 2026, which is supported by the Cultural Matching Fund.
