What is your talent or gift? I was at an outing earlier and I encouraged someone to write a book. I gave him the easy way to write it and he countered back with he was one of those people that didn’t like to do something unless he was going to be a New York Times bestseller. My simple response: even they started somewhere and if you write a book, no one can ever take that away from you.

Even if I’m not a New York Times bestseller as of this moment, writing here on Substack doesn’t make me any less of a writer. Putting words on the screen for you to read puts my words out there and no one can ever take that away from me.

What’re my talents? Other than writing of course. Encouraging, party trick math, baking, naming things like books and products and looking at things from the perspective of I did that. Actually Idk if that last one is a talent so much as it was a gift from the universe these past couple of years.

I used to be the person who wouldn’t really take pride in what I did. I just did them and moved onto the next thing. I didn’t celebrate myself but that’s because I grew up not being celebrated and it’s a whole other challenge to be able to celebrate yourself and be proud of yourself for the things you have done.

Back to the gift I was talking about. Being able to look at things I have done and being proud of them was a gift I earned in the last year. I can’t say it was a talent and maybe gift is the wrong word. Maybe reward is better because you don’t have to do anything for a gift or talent but when it’s a reward, you have to do something for it. That could be spending money at a specific store to earn points, creating social media posts to gain followers or learning to feel proud of who you are and what you have done.

Talents are nice, gifts aka presents are better however rewards might be the best of them all. Why do I say that? When it comes to talents and gifts, a lot of times, those are things that come so naturally to you that it’s surprising that other people don’t have them. However when it comes to a reward, you know exactly what you did to earn it.

As for me, I am looking very forward to using my talents and receiving gifts aka presents as my rewards for a job well done over the past few years. I can say it all started with words on the screen and that is a reward in itself. See you next time. 🙂
