That mattere because her Telegraph piece is written as though she simply “dared to criticise Restore Britain”. That is nonsense. Phillips has inserted herself into the increasingly nasty war between Reform and Restore and then complained that people noticed she was in it.

She is also not a particularly sympathetic figure in all this. Phillips has spent years operating in a political culture built on provocation, sneering and personalised attack. She is perfectly happy dishing it out. Now, when some of the people she attacks answer in language that is genuinely disgusting, she suddenly discovers the importance of civility.
Again, that does not excuse the misogyny. It just makes the self-portrait rather harder to swallow.
The funniest part is her complaint about being portrayed as psychologically unstable. A few paragraphs later she diagnoses Restore as a “brainwashed cult” displaying narcissism, Machiavellianism and psychopathy. Apparently amateur psychiatry is beyond the pale when aimed at Alex Phillips, but fine when she is doing it to everybody else.
This is the point she keeps trying to blur. You can think the abuse she has received is revolting and still think her coverage of Restore has become partisan, obsessive and transparently tied up with the Reform-restore civil war.
