[SIC] Day is offered exclusively to paying subscribers of [SIC]. All imagery is mine, except where noted.
Hi all,
We’re back: [SIC] Talks #120. Slightly new format, truncated, [maybe] harder hitting, for those of you with the attention deficit disorder, for whose drugs we will talk about treatments herein. This is the first in what will be a weekly series for six paid subscribers, released in advance of its publication in [SIC] on Thursday.
My guest his week is Michelle Lhooq , who is a former colleague of mine when she was the features editor at Thump, VICE’s dance music, electronic music vertical, who also now is the major demo behind Rave New World, which is one of my favorite newsletters and gets deep into nightlife, dance music, drugs, counterculture, and access to scenes that I very much envy but no longer possess in my advanced age.
Michelle’s in LA and she just got her neighbor to turn off his leaf blower, especially so we could record.
A few of the stories we talked about, in case you want to bone up ahead of time:
Has the New Cocaine Finally Arrived? Clubgoers are using 3-MMC to dance all night, then taking more to lock in at the office.
Sauna Beach Parties and Robot Dog Fight Dispatch from the fringes of the Bay Area’s tech accelerationist pseudo-utopia
The Jimothy Rave Was IRL Brain Rot. Raccoon mania is melting our minds
Wellness Influencers Are Pushing ‘Natural’ and Unproven Alternatives to Adderall
A few more Friday links after the jump, too. Stick around.
