ARETÉ Science is pleased to welcome Dr. James McKnight, MD, as the newest member of our team committed to transforming mental health care in America. Dr. McKnight will assume the role of Associate Director for Public Policy and Development of COMMUNITY SERVICES.
Dr. McKnight brings more than three decades of experience in working with underserved populations in urban settings and is deeply committed to expanding the scope of services and improving the standard of care.
A graduate of the Morehouse School of Medicine, Dr. McKnight did his post-graduate training at Emory University Medical System. Dr. McKnight’s career in New York City has predominantly focused on Harlem, one of the communities where the gap between mental health need and mental health access is most acutely deficient. He is Board Certified in adult, child, and adolescent psychiatry with clinical expertise spanning depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, ADHD, mood disorders, and substance use.
Dr. McKnight’s background aligns closely with the mission at the heart of ARETÉ Science: the belief that comprehensive, high-quality mental health care should be available to every American, regardless of background or circumstance. His work in an underserved urban community speaks directly to the treatment gap our organization was founded to close.
“I am delighted to work with ARETÉ Science as it pursues making Mental Health Treatment and Awareness universal.“ ~Dr. McKnight
ARETÉ Science was founded with a mandate to eradicate stigma, promote awareness, and ensure access to quality care for the roughly 70 million Americans living with mental health and brain disorders. Dr. McKnight joins a mission-driven team working across three stages of action: galvanizing public awareness, driving policy reform, and ultimately ensuring accessible, quality care for all.
We are fortunate and glad to have him with us.
