i’m sorry folks. i have a confession to make. i got lazy. i got distracted. i got demotivated. i sort of given up. but here i am in my weekly newsletter #3 proving my accountability and trying to keep on track.
truth is that MyDiary is not doing so well the way i expected. maybe i got high expectations i think. but everything starts from zero. so this is my zero. in fact, it’s better than zero that i have all of you wonderful 30,000 followers combined on substack, linkedin, and medium reading my not-so emotional confession here.
i’m working on MyDiary update yet and I plan to hit that #shipkaro button next week for that. at the same time, i love coding and working on new app is always always always amazing. i repeat always. so gallery app is going with a lot of fun to be fair.
i have tweaked the user interface of the gallery app. it includes the space saved live while you are swiping to give you more context on how much should you go for. i have reworked with the complete screen with all those fancy confetti party effects to give users a sense of achievement. that’s so cool honestly.
and most importantly, i have added the badges for the gamification and user retention. it’s so good to be working on it, i miss game development a lot still today. here’s how the new ticking space saving, complete screen and badges show up now.
a lot more coming in this app, so keep following my build in public journey for gallery app.
no matter what, i always end up on this question that what ai i am using? now having used many tools like claude code, cursor, kiro code etc, i have understood one thing. it’s not about car, it’s about driver.
a good driver can drive a bad car very smoothly, but a bad driver can’t even handle a good car.
so are you a good driver? that’s what you have to learn today. no ai tool is perfect. all of these have some good advantages, while they lack at something. but my favorite, if you are still wondering after driver example, is obviously claude code. nothing has convinced me beyond that. but….
but…
yes but, i have been working with glm 4.6 model through claude code for the gallery app past 2 weeks (after that interesting experience of kiro code). and i must say, it’s very cool. it’s 3-5x cheaper than claude code and comes very close to claude code, i must say. it’s not that amazing in code quality and results it produces, but if you are looking for something cheaper and better, then go with glm 4.6. no questions asked. seriously.
but i will repeat it again. learn to drive first. learn basics of ai, basics of prompting, basics of how these agents work, and how to get most out of them. otherwise you will just be wasting tokens and money and getting shitty results and complaining on social media that…
ai is a slop.
ai is horrible.
ai is garbage.
ai is hype.
ai is <INSERT YOUR VERB HERE>
on that note, i have got this very interesting gift from my favorite ai tool. claude has given me a 30-days trial (again) for their $100 Max 5x plan :) thank you anthropic
most of this i’ve been occupied with my old friend, “RemoteKaro”. wow, i never imagined that i would hate capital case letters so soon. it’s still 3rd edition today. so, i wanted to experiment a bit with RemoteKaro. i was getting these non-stop questions for like 6+ months now that
“when is the next remote jobs masterclass?”
“why haven’t i done 3rd one yet?”
“why have i closed 1:1 calls for remote job masterclass?”
and on and on and on and on…
so i did it. it was rushed. it was unplanned. it was executed with the spirit of #shipkaro and literally shipped in less than 3 days.
and oh boy, was it beautiful? it was AMAZING. there, see my excitement? i just written all caps word boy.
42 people signed up, 35 joined the call, and 30 people stayed in the call for 5 hours 32 minutes. that’s me talking for 5 and half hours non-stop and drinking 4 water bottles in the middle of the night with 36 random people on the google meet. here we are trying not to pose for the call.
now that i have arranged the 3rd masterclass on landing remote jobs, i am getting more messages from the people who missed it. so stay tuned for this newsletter and RemoteKaro WhatsApp channel for the next session which is going to happen after 15th November, 2025 of this month.
it’s that time now for the story. few years ago, i was looking for remote jobs and was applying like crazy in 100s of jobs. so there was this company, who accepted my resume and sent me a link of tests. they said
“attempt these tests in one-go. these tests will take only couple of minutes. once you’re done, let us know and we will move ahead with the process.”
when i opened the link, there were 13 tests. beside each test was written 20 mins, 25 mins, 10 mins, and so on. when i calculated the total, it was around 6 hours literally. a company expecting me, a candidate, to spend 6 hours on these stupid tests. those tests were literally stupid.
one test was like, here’s a word, pronounce it with english accent and record the audio. one test was like if you have 3 emails, one called URGENT, one from a manager, and one with the title “You’ve won the lottery today”, which one will you open.
ofcourse i will open the lottery one, so i can avoid doing the job for your stupid company, boss
so i was slacking for about 8 days, and the company was sending me a new email every 2 days reminding me that i have to do tests, sorry stupid tests, so i my process can go ahead. finally on 9th day, i wasted my life’s precious 6 hours and finished all those stupid tests.
can you guess what happened?
the company ghosted me. literally ghosted. first they were sending emails every 2 days, now i am sending emails every 2 days to ask them that i have done the tests, what not. and nothing. it’s been about 5 years now and i still haven’t heard back from them about the stupid tests.
so lesson learned the hard way. i learned to always validate the company before spending the time on their interview process.
see, this is the kind of stuff i teach in my remote jobs landing masterclass. so do check that whatsapp channel for the next one.
what you mean what’s next? 🤣 obviously see you in the next week’s newsletter where i will share more updates about shipkaro and RemoteKaro stuff. meanwhile do follow me on LinkedIn, Twitter, or Threads wherever you are
and if you are thinking about any SaaS or app idea, hit that ship button so hard that it explodes
