It’s been quite a while since I’ve felt like turning on the camera while I paint.
Sometimes, like when I shared the mixed media portrait using graphite powder a couple of weeks ago, I film my process to both document it for myself and share it. When I’m trying something new, having it on video helps me to see what I tried, what worked, and what didn’t. Personally, I find it a lot more helpful than just taking notes.
Which is probably why I have more unlisted videos on YouTube than published ones — many of those are raw, unedited, unfinished pages. I just film the bits that I think I’d want to refer back to again and store them on YouTube.
And then there are days when I’m just playing in my journal, and I’ll turn on the camera for fun. I never know what’s going to happen on the page or even if I will end up sharing the footage, but I enjoy the process of filming, editing, and seeing what happens.
