Nicola Todd-Morgan · She Wrote Too

Born in 1884, Naomi Jacob, ‘writer, performer, trouser-wearer, truth-teller’ wrote this novel as part of her epic Gollantz family saga. This novel is the founding story: the prequel to an extraordinary tale spanning seven books, starting in the 18th Century and following through to the Second World War. It is full of love, deception, disappointment, drama and hope - following a group of determined yet troubled characters as they take on the world in pursuit of their love of beauty and honour.

In this episode, Caroline and I revel in the humour and humanity of this prolific writer. She published nearly eighty novels - something she described as ‘a job of work’.

We ask the question: why on earth hasn’t this been made into a Sunday night costume drama? It was a best seller at the time and, really, everyone should have heard of it. Especially Netflix.
