I’m a versatile person.
Many aspects of my life have proven it: my bedroom, my work, my thought process. Just for readers who never knew me in my life, here is one of the tiny corners where I used to live for three years in New York City. This sense of patchiness has been a constant idea living me inside-out.
Breastfed with spices from all directions and lulled by broad accents, I inherited this hybrid nature, the constant status of mixing, an essence of being unseparated, like my hometown, a bustling city that never bothers to distinguish itself from outsiders. Growing up in such an environment, I tend to blend any new experience or place into myself. I was homed and cultured in China, later schooled and socialized in the U.S., and later, drifting through different roles from designer to crisis counselor, writer to bartender.
I never find it less reasonable, if I fail to connect my experience in any analysis or logic, they connect through one single thing. Me.
My writing style, and guiltily speaking, philosophy, is heavily influenced by the Italian novelist Elena Ferrante and the Chinese-American anthropologist Anna Tsing. I fell in love with Elena’s disturbing frankness and candid exposure of self, and observed ‘half-truths’, and got inspired by Anna Tsing’s patchiness and how this patchiness consists of her world, and led her curiosity, then research.
The Patchwork is founded upon the status of mixing, and spirits from brilliant minds above. It stitched and collaged some ordinary life sentiments, self-portrayal, opinions, discussions, and auto-ethnographical or independent research writings.
